After retiring from Alcan Aluminum as National Sales Manager, Hubert devoted his life politically and civically to Tega Cay, the city he dearly loved. Hubert began his service by being elected to the first city council in Tega Cay,and then was elected to serve as its 2nd mayor. Hubert also served the community as a member of the Tega Cay Lions Club and the Rotary Club, and for six years as a commissioner of the Lake Wylie Marine Commission, whch is dedicated to improving the quality of Lake Wylie. One of Hubert's biggest accomplishments was his successful support for the Pennies For Progress campaign, legislation designed to speed up road construction in York County. Hubert is given much of the credit for its approval by the voters of the county and its continued success today.
Hubert was a veteran who proudly served his country in World War II, attached to the Army Quartermaster Corps in India. He was a 32 degree Mason, a member of East Gate Lodge 692 in Charlotte, and attended Grace Community Church in Fort Mill,S.C.
Hurbert was the loving husband to his wife Barbara for 55 years until death in 2002.
Hubert is survived by all of his children:Paige,(Paula)of Tega Cay, Richard of Morhanton, Ga.; and Diane Schmidt (Robert) of Orlando, Fla.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
