Silas W. Archer, 68, Dies Sunday Afternoon
Silas Wesley Acher, 68 years old, died at his farm home here at Scio after an extended illness. Mr. Archer was born in Green county, Tenn., Oct. 3, 1884. He spent his early life in his native state, lived several years in Mankato, Kan., and came to Scio 18 years ago. He married Lulu Carter in Greenville, Tenn., Nov. 27, 1904, and she, with four daughters and three sons, survives. Mr. Archer was a member of the United Brethren church and has belonged to the Scio IOOF lodge for many years.
Surviving children are Ray Archer, Albany; Earl Archer, Portland, Herbert Archer, Red Cloud, Nebr; Mrs. Joe Schultz, Scio; Mrs. Eldon Evans and Mrs. Clyde Finnegan, both of Lebanon; Mrs. Harry Hoffman, Leavenworth, Kans. There are also nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Harrison J Archer, lives in Portland and there are three surviving sisters, Mrs. Jake Faddis, Morristown, Tenn., Mrs. Marion Ferrill, Rogersville, Tenn.; Mrs. Bert Carter, Moshiem, Tenn.
Funeral services were held at Scio Baptist church Thursday afternoon, March 26, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Victor L. Loucks officiating. Singers were Mrs. Elvin Fast and Mrs. Harold Pynch with Mrs. Gloria Thurston pianist. Floral arrangements were in charge of Mrs. Bess Philippi and Mrs. Birdelle Phillips. Bearers were Ercel Osborn, Al Seaman, Dean Morris, Gilbert Calavan, Carl Warren, Walter Miller. Interment was in Willamette Memorial Park near Albany.
