Howard E. Vaught, 74, Winamac, passed away at 2:46 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2008, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac.

He was born June 4, 1935, in Kentucky, to William and Florence Pemberton Vaught. He was married April 23, 1955, to Ruby Hillenburg, who survives.

Howard served in the National Guard and was a former member of Steel Workers Local 37. He was retired from Youngstown Steel in East Chicago and was the owner of H&R Tavern in Portage. Howard enjoyed spending time on the Tippecanoe River in Winamac.

Also surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Leston G. and Jennie Vaught, Winamac; daughter and son-in-law, Lynda J. and John Napier, Portage; sons, Larry D. Vaught and Cindy McNew, and Lorne D. Vaught and Christine Moore, all of Portland, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and his parents.

No visitation is scheduled.

A remembrance of life service will be scheduled at a later date.
