Longtime Anchorage resident, Arnold E. "Bud" Amadon, Jr., 72, passed away June 7, 2011 at Providence Alaska Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Bud was born December 5, 1938 to Arnold and Florida Amadon in Worcester, Massachusetts. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1956 then joined the US Air Force on September 18, 1961. He married the love of his life, Claudette, August 17, 1963 and served abroad and stateside until being stationed at Elmendorf AFB in 1969. It didn't take long for Alaska to become home and the place he and Claudette chose to raise their family. His adoration for Alaska was so immense that he wanted others to enjoy it as well, thus began his real estate career. After retiring from military service as a Master Sargeant on October 1, 1981, he continued selling real estate, later Brokering Amadon Associates.
Bud, an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He had a keen love of nature and a connection with animals that was second to none. Most of all, Bud was a family man. Whether preparing a pot of his famous spaghetti or hosting a night of Pinochle, his greatest pleasure was derived from sharing those moments with family, friends and especially his grandchildren. His generosity knew no bounds.
Bud is survived by his wife of 47 years, Claudette (Roy), their four children: Jacqueline and her husband Brian, Arnold III (Buck), Daniel and his wife Robin, and Danielle and her husband Peter; seven grandchildren: Kathleen and her husband Larry, Jessica, Carl and Anne-Marie, Ashley, Travis, Ian, Dane; and his great-grandson, Orion. He also leaves two brothers: Gerry and his wife Patty, Roger and his wife Joyce. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
A funeral mass will be celebrated with Fr. Donatian Kaigoma officiating at 1:00 pm, Friday, June 24th at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Eagle River, followed by a committal service with Military Honors at 3:00 pm at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Legacy Funeral Homes Kehl's Chapel.
