Mrs. Bacon was born Lydia Octavia Bartholomew Reading, Hillsdale Co., Mich., Sept 22, 1852 and died at her home in Fremont, Mich., Jan 4, 1911, at the age of 58 years, 8 months, 11 days, after an illness of only six days.

She was married to Frank A. Bacon of Reading, Mich., Feb. 6, 1868, and moved to the Fremont area in June of the same year. They located on a farm in Brookside which was then an unbroken wilderness, cutting the underbrush away and building a half or "shanty roof" dwelling 12x22 feet square with out either door or window to cover the openings for three weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. Bacon sold their farm and moved to Fremont, Oct 1st 1900, which they have made most comfortable for their future home.

Mrs. Bacon had four sons, Ellsworth, Henry, Amos and Grove. All were at the bedside of the wife and mother when she died. Mrs. Bacon was a member of the W. R. C. for several years acting as President for seven years, she was also a member of Magnolia Chapter of O. E. S. holding the office of associate Martron for one year, but on account of poor health was unable to attend regularly before her death. She was president of the W. R. C. at the time of her death.
