She was born May 6, 1922, in the Jamestown home of her parents, Otto and Adelia Anderson Hjalmarson. She was a 1941 graduate of Jamestown High School and a 1944 graduate of the former WCA Hospital School of Nursing.
Prior to her marriage, she had been employed as a nurse at WCA Hospital, Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital in California and with the Visiting Nurses in Jamestown.
She was a member of the First Covenant Church.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. A.J. "Jack" Pickard, whom she married March 3, 1948, in First Covenant Church; two sons: John C. (Gail) Pickard of Rockmart, Ga. and Max R. (Jeanine) Pickard of Jamestown; a daughter, Meg A. Pickard of Bemus Point; 14 grandchildren: Tameka Alderman, Celeste and Michael Jones, Bernadette McAffee, Jackson, Samantha, and Kristofer Nolloth, Sarah and Christian Pickard, Pete Johnson, Leah (Charles) Watkins, Nina (Mark) Kaltenbaugh, Seth Massey, and Benjamin Pickard; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Svea Hjalmarson and Esther Goodell, both of Jamestown; several nieces and nephews; and a son-in-law, John Nolloth of Mayville.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann K. Nolloth, who died Jan. 20, 2009.
