Neola Atkinson, 93, went home to be with her Lord on June 18, 2011, at home. There will be a visitation Thursday, June 23, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, and a graveside service at Highland Memory Gardens at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 24.

Neola was born May 3, 1918, at Summerset, IA, to William and Elizabeth (Davis) Turnipseed. She graduated from Des Moines Lincoln High School, and had a short career as a bookkeeper. Her true career was being a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. From 1976 to 1983, she was a secretary at Farmland Insurance. Her main hobby was cooking, and her life was centered on church activities and her family. She and her husband helped her brother start several churches including Indianola Heights Evangelical Free Church. She was also active at Union Park Baptist Church, and later at Martensdale Community Church, until her health no longer allowed her to attend.

Neola was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; parents; brother, Keith; sisters, Frieda Gideon, Verna Turnipseed and great- grandson, Ethan DeVries. Survivors include her daughter, Beverly (David) Stromberg of Norwalk; granddaughter, Kristin (Jeff) DeVries of Pleasant Hill; grandson, Kevin Stromberg and great-granddaughter, Madison DeVries.

The family gives a special thank you to the staff of Southern Care Hospice for the wonderful care provided in recent months.
