The Rev. Thompson, 55, of 209 South Elm St., died Wednesday morning at his residence.
He was born March 12, 1939 in Fulton County, son of Effie Sorrells Thompson and the late Rufus Dennis Thompson. He was ordained April 8, 1973 and pastored Way of the Cross Missionary Baptist Church, Hillside Baptist Church and New Zion Baptist Church. He was employed by Orkin Pest Control. He was married on March 31, 1962 to the former Margie Louise Martin.
Survivors include: his wife; a daughter, Denise Missildine, Rome; three stepsons, Arlen Cargle, Rome, Gary Cargle, Kennesaw, James Cargle, Glenn; four sisters, Doris Mask, Rosanel Beck, Hazel Casey, all of Rome, Dixie Snow, Hiram; three brothers, Homer Thompson, Canton, Fred Thompson, Biloxi, Miss., William Henry Thompson, Griffin; a half brother, Leroy Ryde, Texas; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
