VanZANDT, Novella Gertrude "Gertie" - Of Flint, made her transition from this life to eternity on Saturday, January 19, 2008. Funeral service will be held at 1PM Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Doug Klein officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Visitation 2-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Gertrude was born in Harriman, Tennessee on January 25, 1926, the daughter of Oliver and Ona (Riddle) Frisbee of Spring Creek, North Carolina. After graduation from Harriman High School, she was employed by Oak Ridge Atomic Plant. After moving to Flint, she was employed at Redman Motors of Owosso and later at Chevrolet. She also worked as a Sr. Nurse Assistant at Kith Haven and Hurley Hospital, including her favorite the nursery. She then pursued a career as a self-employed private duty Nurse, working with Home Health Care agencies, where she made friends with several special people and their families, whom she cherished over the years. Also survived by her children; son, Gerald; daughters, Teresa, Brenda and Susan; grandsons, David, Brian and Jesse; great-grandchildren, Whitney, Kaiya, Logan and Jacob; several nieces, nephews; 2 sisters, Grace Roberts and Joan Frisbee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. VanZandt, whom she married on December 22, 1947; her parents; brothers, Oliver, Kline and Thomas; sisters, Geneva and Maxine, all of Harriman, Tennessee.
