She was born November 27, 1915, in Broadway, NC, daughter of the late Neal Alexander Stewart and Lula Frances Walker Stewart, and was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Otto (Tecie) Herring; a son, Edward Earl Herring; a daughter, Catherine Burroughs; six brothers; and two sisters.

Mrs. Herring was a member of New Hope Baptist Church for many years. She worked for Garver Shirt Manufacturing for 21 years, and for the Catherine Kennedy Home for 18 years.
