Julian "Josh" Mansfield Barnett went home to be with his Lord on June 12 at the age of 75. He was born on June 2, 1936 in Galveston, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his father and stepmother, L.T. and Ruth Barnett of Burnet; his mother and stepfather, Irene Griffin O'Sullivan and Timothy L. O'Sullivan of Pasadena, Texas; and his daughter, Frances Enderby of West Palm Beach, Fla.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marion Nelon Barnett; son Robert Julian Barnett; daughter April Barnett; granddaughter Aubrey Lynn Barnett; grandson Clayton Julian Barnett; brother Larry T. Barnett and wife, Callie, of Austin; sisters Sonja Barnett Angelo and husband, Jack, and Timothy Ann O'Sullivan Perfect and husband Doug, all of La Porte, Texas. Survivors also include Jim and Bonnie Nelon of Golden, Colo., Sondra Sefton and family of Paris, France, George and Diane Betts of Camden, Ark., as well as cousins, extended family, and many special friends.

The family received friends for visitation at Grand View Funeral Home on Thursday, June 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services took place at 7:30 p.m. on June 16 in The Chapel of Grand View Funeral Home, Pasadena. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Julian Barnett may be made to the American Heart Association National Center, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX, 75231 or the charity of your choice.

Julian graduated from Texas City High School in 1954. He served his country in the United States Army from 1956 - 1957, attended a local Junior College, and retired in 1995 from the Harris County Engineering Department. At an early age he began a lifetime of entertaining - a gifted vocalist, composer, songwriter, instrumentalist, and community theater actor.

With strong spiritual beliefs, Julian would often talk about his prayer life - he prayed about the same time each day & in the same place - squatted down on his patio behind the swing with his back against the wall. He prayed earnestly - but not for himself - for his family, for his friends, for his country - all of which he loved dearly. He became a Christian at the age of 7 at the First Baptist Church, Texas City and had a deep & abiding, absolute faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord.

He & his wife of 50 years, Marion, loved to have folks come visit. Their door was always open and welcoming. Family thanksgiving gatherings at their home were such a joy to them, and they looked forward to it each year.

Thirty-six years ago he met "Bill W." and that 'turned his life around'. Julian was loving, loyal, wise, honest, devoted to & proud of his family; tenderhearted, welcoming, never met a stranger, and had a great sense of humor. He loved his pets and commented recently that you can tell the character of a man by 3 things -what it takes to make him angry, how he treats his family, and how he takes care of his pets.
