He was a X-ray Technician; a Veteran of the United States Army; and a member of The Open Door Church in Holcomb, Missouri.
On March 29, 2006, at Huey Baptist Church in Gideon, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Deborah Tucker Mims. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, John Alan Mims, and fiance, Heather Albritton and her son, Adam Richards of Horn Lake, Mississippi, Bradley Scott Mims, and wife, Danielle of Millington, Tennessee; one daughter, Debra Lynn Mims of Nashville, Tennessee; step-son, Jay Wheeler and wife, Devon of Kennett, Missouri; three grandchildren, Eva Mims and Emery Mims both of Millington, Tennessee, Hunter Caraway of Holcomb, Missouri; five brothers, Leslie Mims of Kennett, Missouri, Tom Mims of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Steven Mims of Dexter, Missouri, Chris Mims and Justin Mims both of Wappapello, Missouri; two sisters, Linda Lewis and husband, Billy of Midlothian, Virginia and Sharon Nolen and husband, Harold of Caruthersville, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Billie Mims and one sister, Lana Sue Mims Robinson.
