U.S. Congressman, Kentucky Governor. He graduated of the University of Kentucky, started a real estate business and also engaged in farming in Olive Hill, Kentucky. He studied law and elected constable of Carter County. Entering politics, he was entering politics, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-second Congress and to the next six succeeding Congresses, serving (1911-23). After his term he was elected as a Democrat the 41st Governor of Kentucky, serving (1923-27). After leaving office, he was admitted to the bar, served as the Commonwealth attorney for the 34th Judicial District, (1932-35) and was a member of the Kentucky State Workmen's Compensation Board, (1936-44). Retiring from public service, he practiced law and worked as a real estate agent until his death at age 79.
