Rachel Olivia Hemby Field, passed away Monday May 4, in Florida, surrounded by her loving family, peacefully at home under Hospice care.
Originally from Weddington, N.C. and an Army wife for 21 years, Rachel retired in 1985 as City Clerk of Daytona Beach, Florida and moved to St. Petersburg to be closer to her daughters. Widowed in 1972 and with "three daughters to educate", Rachel began her career with the City of Daytona Beach. She began in the Water Department and with great self-determination rose to the position of City Clerk. Rachel was admired, respected, and mentored many, living her life as an example both professionally and personally. Rachel was selected as one of the Most Powerful Women in Daytona Beach, November 1978.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Willard E. Field, Lt. Col U.S. Army retired. Survivors include her daughters Lynda F. Field (Peter Voigt) Melbourne, Australia, Janet O. F. (Adrian) Quinn and Nancy F. (Rick) Montanari, St. Petersburg, FL; 8 grandchildren Rachel Carr, Melbourne Australia, John S. Carr, Namibia Africa, Keate Quinn, Drew Quinn, Meagan Montanari, Eric Montanari, Kirsten Montanari, and Macklin Montanari, all from St. Petersburg.
Visitation: 3-5:00 PM - Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Lyerly Funeral Home.
Rachel will be laid to rest with her husband at 10:00 AM - Monday, May 11, 2009 in the Old Historic Salisbury National Cemetery.
