She married Joseph C. Thompson on June 10, 1939 in the St. George Temple. She graduated from Dixie High School as a valedictorian.
Helen was a faithful member of the LDS Church throughout her life. She served in many capacities including ward and stake leadership positions, even in later years when her health failed. She was an avid reader and belonged to numerous book clubs and late in life learned how to paint in oils.
Prior to Joe's death in 1982, they enjoyed family gatherings at their Tabiona mountain cabin. After his death, she became the strong matriarch of the family.
She was an amazing mother and grandmother and her heart and home was open to all as they were greeted with warm hugs and offers of food, cookies, and ice cream. Her family was her greatest joy, and her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, a daughter, Carol Bea, and a son, Earl. She is survived by Richard (Gayle) Thompson, Ralph (Brenda) Thompson, Earl's spouse Kathy Thompson, Brenda (Don) Fawson, Lisa (Omar) Andersen, Lee V. Thompson, Colleen (Vahl) Buchanan, thirty grandchildren, fifty-nine 1/2 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren.
