She was born on June 22, 1927, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria to John A. and Mary Fussner Powers. She married Robert Itschner on June 10, 1950, in Peoria. He survives.
Margaret is also survived by seven children, Thomas (Katie) Itschner of Metamora, Ted Itschner of Peoria, Mark Itschner of Chillicothe, John Itschner of Virginia Beach, Va., Jim Itschner of Virginia Beach, Va., Joseph Itschner of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mary Ann (Jim) Loyet of Swansea, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, David, Amy, Jessica, Jeanette, Nicole, Pierre, Kristin, Meghan, Cameron and Emma; and six great-grandchildren, Kiana, Eva, Brody, Logan, Kiersten and Aydyn.
She was preceded in death by one son, Timothy, in 1996, and two brothers, James and Jerome Powers.
She was a graduate of Academy of Our Lady/Spalding Institute and Mount St. Scholastic College in Atchison, Kansas.
Margaret was a teacher for 25 years at St. Thomas Catholic School in Peoria Heights, where she was director of the CCD Program for 15 years.
She was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharist minister and homebound minister. She was an active member of the bereavement committee and liturgy committee. She was past president of Peoria Women Civic Federation, past president of American Association of University Women. She was a also a member of Peoria Women's Club, North Peoria Women's Club, St. Philomena Bridge Club and past member of the board of the Fine Arts Society.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at St. Philomena Church, with Father David Richardson officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary and 30 minutes before the Mass at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded after the Mass. Burial of ashes will be in St. Clements Cemetery in Dunlap.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Philomena School Endowment Fund, AAUW (American Association of University Women) or to the charity of the donor's choice.
