Mathew Duncan Gregg was born 5 Apr 1804, in Penn's Valley, Centre County, Pennsylvania. His parent were Andrew Gregg and Martha Potter. Mathew decided to dedicate himself to the legal profession, and was admitted to the Bar at Huntingdon in 1825. He then married Ellen McMurtrie, Daughter of David and Martha (Elliott) McMurtrie in 1828. He graduated the US Military Academy at West Point in 1855, and was assigned to the dragoons, recieving his full appointment as a 2nd Lieutenant in September of 1855. Mathew passed away 27 Jul 1845, in Patomic Furnace, Loudoun County Virginia.
