Daughter of Luke Gibson (1778-1853) of Richmond County, North Carolina. Granddaughter of Nelson Gibson, Sr. and Sarah Williams. Great-granddaughter of Ziba Gibson and Mary Bennett, who emigrated to the American Colonies about 1750.

Eliza married Temple Cole Terry about 1840. In 1845, they moved west with their infant daughter Nancy to Kemper County, Mississippi. Also making the move was Eliza's brother Eli Terry Gibson and his young family.

They are found living in Kemper County in the 1850 US Federal Census.

Eliza's exact date of death is unknown but she died before August 1856.

On 27 August 1856, a document was filed in Richmond County NC by Temple C. Terry of Kemper County MS that constituted James P. Leak of Richmond Co. NC to act as agent to administer the estate of his wife Elizabeth Terry, dec'd. [Extract from Estate Records, Book III, by Myrtle Bridges, c. 2001]

Children of Elizabeth Gibson and Temple Cole Terry:
Nancy J. Terry (1844-1885)
Frances Elizabeth "Fannie" Terry (1845-1908)
William Henry "Hardy" Terry (1848-1910)
James Luther Terry (1850-1913)
Susan S. Terry Norman (1852-1927)
Mary Ann Terry Adison Wilks (1855- )

[By 1860, Temple is found living in Marion County with the same children but with a different wife with whom he had had two sons and two children from his 2nd wife's prior marriage. In addition to the estate document, Eliza's death in 1855-1856 is calculated on the ages of the children living in the household in 1860.]

There is a Gibson Family cemetery in Moscow, Kemper County, that contains the remains of Eliza's brother Eli and his family. A survey notes that there are six unmarked graves for which there are family records. Eliza's name is not on the list. The earliest grave recorded by Eli's family dates to 1861 - five years after Eliza's passing. The surveyor of Gibson Family Cemetery is of the opinion that Eliza is not interred with her brother's family. [Email correspondence, Nov 2011]
