Mr. Berton was born in Bay Settlement June 21, 1879, and lived and farmed in Brown and Oconto Counties until 1906, when he came to Shawano and started the city's first dray lines.
The past 24 years he has operated a tavern in Shawano. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Surviving him are his wife, Suzanne; three sons, Bernard of Chicago; George and Lyle of Shawano; two daughters, Mrs. Clem Schauer of Tucson, Arizona and Mrs. Russell North of Green Bay; 25 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Jane Courchaine of Suring; Mrs. Louise Lane of Oconto Falls, and Mrs. Clara Lindroth of Shawano. A daughter, Gertrude, preceded him in death seven years ago.
