Geneva Allen Adams died on Friday, June 24th, at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Katie Strickland in 1987; her husband, John in 1997; and her daughter, Nancy Yeager, in 2009.

Geneva was born in Stephenville on December 26, 1914 to Ulysses and Bessie Allen, the 8th of 9 children. The family moved to Lubbock in 1924, where her father worked as a cotton farmer and house painter. Geneva graduated from Lubbock High School in 1932. She married John Adams on October 25, 1936, and had 4 daughters; Judith, Katie, Angela and Nancy. She and John were members of Broadway Church of Christ through-out their lives in Lubbock.

Geneva worked as a secretary at Broadway Church of Christ from 1958-1963. She then worked for the Texas Tech Library until she retired in 1978. While there, she worked with blind students as director of the Opticon Program, which had been developed as a new reading technology for the blind.

John and Geneva began a caregiver support group for families of the mentally ill in the late 80's, and this group met in their home for 11 years. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in October, 1996, shortly before John's death at age 86.

Geneva spent the last 8 ½ years of her life at Carillon, among some of her many friends.

Throughout her life, she was known and loved for her kindness and her delightful sense of humor. Her family and friends, and her love of God, meant everything to her. These beloved ones sustained her until the end.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith Warman-Adams and husband Wendell, Angela Adams and husband John Chinn, all of Lubbock; eight grandchildren, Grace Drennon, Holly Maxey and husband Shane, Joseph Yeager and wife Paula, Jenny Demaray and husband Chad, all of Lubbock, Matt Wilkins and wife Laura of Raleigh, NC, Peter Wilkins and wife Kimberly, and Adam Stewart all of Dallas, and Chris Yeager of Houston; eight great grandchildren, Dylan and Holden Kennedy, Nicholas and Jack Maxey, Owen and Wesley Demaray all of Lubbock, Elizabeth and Anna Wilkins of Houston.

Funeral services will be held at Broadway Church of Christ on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 10 am with Bill Starcher officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Resthaven on Monday, from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Children's Home of Lubbock or VistaCare Hospice.
