Leona "Mac" Pendley, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, died on Saturday, December 20, 2008.
She was a native of East Tennessee, she attended Mars Hill College and graduated from Knoxville General Hospital of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She served in the U.S Army Nurse Corp from 1942 to 1946 and received an honorable discharge at the rank of Captain.
She moved to Chattanooga in 1946 where she served as office nurse for 30 years for Dr. W.D.L. Record, General Surgeon.
She was a longtime faithful member and active participant of First Baptist Church in Chattanooga. At First Baptist she served in many areas including being a member of the Women's Missionary Union, the "Mary" Sunday School Class and the Church media ministries.
She was also a member of the Chattanooga Rose Society and the Kosmos Women's Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas B. Pendley, her mother, father and three brothers.
She is survived by a sister, Ruth Ramsey, of Morristown, Tn. and sister-in-laws, Annie Mae White, of Calhoun, Ga., Mary Nell Pendley, of Greenwood, S.C., Henrietta Hendrickson, of Knoxville, Exa McMahan, of Pitman Center, Tn., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Carver officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 121 p.m. on Monday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: First Baptist Church, 401 Gateway Avenue, Chattanooga, Tn. 37402-1504.
