After moving to Fayetteville, Arkansas in 1951, Vernon worked as a piano technician for 40 years, retiring in 1990. He was a founding member of the Northwest Arkansas Chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild and a member of the First United Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and a member of the chancel choir.
His health failing, in March of this year, Vernon and his wife moved to Tennessee where they could be close to his daughter and son-in-law. He lived at Norris Health and Rehab in Norris, Tennessee and Marilyn lived in an assisted living center 1/2 mile away.
Survivors at the time of his death include his wife of 67 years, Marilyn M. Anderson, his children, Marita (William R.) Pratt of LaFollette, Tennessee, Lyndall (Loren) Soden of Englishtown, New Jersey, and Mark S. (Linda) Anderson of Cimarron, New Mexico, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
