LeROY — Andrew L. Goller Jr., 88, LeRoy, died Monday (June 27, 2011) at Asta Care, Bloomington.

His funeral service will be at 1 p.m. July 5 at LeRoy First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mary Louise Haxton officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service. Military honors and burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home of LeRoy is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the church or to the Ruel Neal American Legion Post 0079 at LeRoy.

Andrew was born Sept. 5, 1922, at Jetmore, Kan., the son of Andrew Levi and Sara May Ely Goller. He married Mary Nordine Irish on Nov. 3, 1945, at the Methodist Church in LeRoy. She preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 2008, after sharing 62 years together.

Surviving Andrew are two daughters, Linda McKinney, Oswego, and Mary Kay (Mark) Kosur, El Paso; six grandchildren, James (Kristin) McKinney, Plainfield; Steven (Kristen) McKinney, Grovetown, Ga.; Sarah (Joseph) Lureau, Naperville; Heather Kosur (James Johnson), El Paso; David Andrew Kosur, Mobile, Ala.; and Paul Kosur, El Paso; and three great-grandchildren, Makala, Andrew and Benjamin McKinney of Grovetown, Ga. Andy is also survived by one brother, Dale (Nancy) Goller, and five sisters, Faye Powell, Ruth Hoagland, Fern Gibbs, Mary King and Ada (Don) Henrickson.

His parents; two brothers, Alva Goller and George Goller; and two sisters, Eva Williams and Ella Strawn, preceded him in death.

Andrew was a lifelong farmer, having grown up on a farm near Hanston in western Kansas during the Dust Bowl days. He and Nordine farmed six years near Foosland, then lived and farmed north of Sabina for 45 years. He also farmed land in the Arrowsmith, Colfax and LeRoy areas. He raised purebred Hampshire hogs and had numerous champions in the 1970s. Andy never truly retired, still doing what he could until the end. His granddaughter Heather was married on his 86th birthday at his LeRoy farm.

Andrew and Nordine enjoyed retirement at the house they built in LeRoy. They enjoyed yearly trips both in the USA and abroad. They played bridge together. Reading was another pleasure, especially farm publications and Westerns. Andrew spent the past year at Evergreen Village, Normal, where he is remembered as being polite and a gentleman. He was most recently at Heartland Health Care, Normal, and then Asta Care, Bloomington.

Andrew was a B25 pilot and captain in the 11th Air Force, 77th Bomb Squadron during World War II, mainly flying out of Attu in the Aleutian Islands for flights over northern Japan. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with Battle Star, Air Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross. He never lost a member of his crew.

He was attending the Air Force Engineering School at Rantoul in 1945 when he met and married Nordine. He graduated from there but farming drew him out of the service. Andy was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a 64-year member of the American Legion.

At age 65, having not flown since in the military, Andrew recertified for a pilot license and flew small planes for pleasure until age 70. All six grandchildren got to fly with him.

He was the West Township clerk for many years, on the LeRoy School Board and on the LeRoy First United Methodist Church Building Committee when the present church was built. He was a leader of the Sabina Greenleaf 4-H Club for 25 years.

Andy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
