A son of Remigius and Cecelia Bührle (also spelled Bihrle), the younger Remigius married his first wife Elisabeth Hillerich on Jan. 29 1846 in St. Louis, Missouri. He applied for U.S. citizenship on Feb. 26, 1866 and took his final oath on May 14, 1878 before the Harrison County Circuit Court (Indiana). On Feb. 27, 1882 he conveyed his real estate, comprising three tracts in Posey Township, Harrison County, Indiana, to his son Frederick Bierly, and married his second wife, Mary Case McLahlin, on June 8, 1882 in the town of Elizabeth. His obituary, printed in the Corydon Democrat on Nov. 23, 1898, reads, Remigius Bierley, an aged gentleman of Posey township, died Monday, aged about 80 years. He was a member of the Catholic church and well known.
