Clayton W. Armstrong, former Ponca City OK resident, died May 22, 2005, at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 74. Clayton was born on April 19, 1931, in Canute OK, the son of Arch and Arwellia (Clapp) Armstrong. As a young boy, Clayton moved to Ponca City with his family and attended school until he graduated in 1949. Following his high school graduation, Clayton attended Oklahoma State University for two years, majoring in journalism. He married Virginia L. Morris on Dec. 2, 1961, in Ponca City. They remained in Ponca City for many years, where Clayton established lifelong friendships. He worked for Ponca City Savings and Loan for a few years before joining Continental Oil Company. He was employed by Conoco for 26 years until his retirement in 1992 and then devoted his spare time to farming. Clayton and Virginia had recently moved to Edmond OK to be closer to their children and grandchildren, whom he adored. One of Clayton's passions in life was music. He enjoyed singing, playing his guitar, and performing with various bands over the years. He especially enjoyed listening to and performing the music of Elvis Presley. The most recent band he was with was "The Blue Notes." He also enjoyed watching and attending bull riding events and NASCAR races. Another favorite hobby was collecting and driving Ford vehicles.

Surviving family members include his loving wife of 43 years, Virginia; daughter Christie Blankenship and son-in-law Greg of Edmond; son Matthew Armstrong and daughter-in-law Stephanie of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Megan and Aubrey Blankenship and Matthew Tyler Armstrong; mother Arwellia Armstrong; brother Dean Armstrong and wife Barbara of Houston TX; sister Christine Fisher and husband Haskel of Olathe KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father A.C. Armstrong and eldest son Christopher Mark Armstrong.
