Mrs. Cordelia Bell Burkey, died at their home in Walnut, Tuesday from a heart attack, after a lingering illness of several years. Cordelia Bell was the daughter of John and Harriet Berry, early pioneer settlers of Cass county. She was born August 17, 1873 on a farm three and one half miles southwest of Marne, where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to John J. Burkey, Feb. 22, 1894, settled on a farm southeast of Walnut, where they lived until retiring to Walnut in 1917 and have since resided. Some eight or ten years ago she began failing in health and growing worse until the middle of May, when she was stricken with a heart attack. She became bedfast, gradually growing worse until she passed away, Tuesday morning, Sept 1 at one p.m.
She is survived by her husband, one son, Roy and one daughter, Mrs. Hugo Paasch and four grandchildren all of this vicinity. Also two brothers, W.B. Berry and R. A. Berry, both of Atlantic, one sister, Mrs. R. M. Dunham of Burbank, Cal., besides a host of near relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Rieck funeral home, Thursday, Sept. 3 at 2 p.m., the Rev. M.A. Banker in charge. Burial was made in the Walnut cemetery.
