Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He was a Sergeant in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Private in Company G, 116th Pennsylvania Infantry for action on June 3, 1864 at Cold Harbor, Virginia. His citation reads "When the color bearer was shot down, this soldier seized the colors and bore them gallantly in a charge against the enemy."
