Former Hastings resident, Fred F. Waltemath, 92, of Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island, died Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Nebraska Veterans Home.

Services will be Tuesday, August 19, 2008; 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. William Nottage-Tacey officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, August 18, 2008; 1:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. family present 7:30-9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family or First Presbyterian Church Audio & Visual Ministry.

Mr. Waltemath was born November 2, 1915 to Frederick & Louise (Lenz) Waltemath in Moorefield, Nebraska. He graduated from Moorefield High School in 1934 and attended Hastings College until he joined the United States Army, serving during WWII, from December 19, 1944 until October 23, 1946 with the Combat Engineers Division. He married Lola Toews in Hastings on June 6, 1943 and she passed away in 1983. He worked for Dutton Lainson and later Hastings Industries until retiring in 1981. He occasionally assisted his father-in-law at Pete Toews Construction Company. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Local Lodge 01394, where he held several positions, National Rifle Association, National Rifle Association Institute for Legislature Action, Disabled American Veterans and Boy Scouts of America. He was a past treasure for the Farmers Valley Cemetery Association.

Mr. Waltemath was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Kim; 1 brother; 1 sister; 2 half sisters; 1 half brother.
