Funeral services were held Sunday in this city over the remains of Edward T. Walsh, for many years a resident of this community. Services were held at 2 o'clock in the afternoon from the First Methodist Church, with the Rev. Raye Ragan officiating. Interment was made in Maplewood Cemetery.
Mr. Walsh died Friday noon at his home here at the age of 77. Death resulted from pneumonia from which he had been ill since Monday of the same week.
Edward T. Walsh, the son of John and Sarah Walsh, was born in County West, Mead, Alhone, Ireland, July 18, 1854. He came to America with his parents on a sailing vessel in 1867 and landed in Castle Garden, NY
From New York they came to Elkhart, IL., and settled on a farm. Several years later they moved to Douglas County. They came to Champaign County in 1876 and settled in what was then known as the Kentucky settlement. A few years later he moved to the old Renner farm, southwest of Rantoul, where he engaged in farming for nearly thirty years. He retired from farming in 1923 and moved to Rantoul.
He departed this life on Friday, Oct, 16, 1931. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Anna Walsh, a son, Richard Walsh, two daughters, Margaret E. and Mrs. Gilbert C. Batcheldor, and eight grandchildren. Two sons, Ira Wilson and William Lewis, preceded him in death.
