Upon enlisting into the War of the Rebellion, Mr. Broughten was 5' 3" tall, he had dark-colored hair, had gray eyes, and had a dark complexion. He was living in Olney, Richland County, Illinois, and was a farmer. He enlisted into Company G, 136th Illinois Infantry on 13 May 1864 in Olney. He was mustered into federal service on 01 June 1864 in Centralia, Marion County, Illinois as a Private. He was mustered out of the service on 22 Oct 1864 in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois.
