Charels Edward Karnes, 75, of Effingham joined his wife Dorothy in Heaven on Monday, June 27, 2011, after a brave and hard-fought 17 year battle with Parkinson's disease.
Graveside services will be held Friday, July 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Beecher City Cemetery. Arrangements by Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Beecher City.Charlie was born June 14, 1936 in Stanford, IL to Jeanie and ruth Starkey Karnes, Child Number 4 of 12. Charlie spent his childhood laughing, playing, and working hard on the family farm. He loved playing with the farm animals and pets, especially his pet roosters. He Married Dorothy Shields on August 11, 1967. They were blessed with a daughter, Carolyn Marie. They made their home in Altamont and attended the Nazarene Church in Effingham. In his younger years Charlie enjoyed gardening and tending to his beautiful roses. He owned and operated C & D Coin for many years in Altamont, IL. Charlie is survived by his daughter Carolyn Karnes of Effingham; sister Frieda Yeakley of Forsyth; sister Lorena (Kenneth) Smith of Monticello; brother Russell(Betty) Karnes of Monticello; brother Stanley (Reta) Karnes of Monticello; brother Joe (Opal) Karnes of Fremont, CA; brother Ivan (Elaine)Karnes of St. Elmo; brother Elbert Karnes of Beecher City; brother Donald Karnes of Shelbyville; brother Owen Karnes of Brownstown; brother Irvin (Wanda) Karnes of Tower Hill; brother Danny (Nancy)
Karnes of Pana; 102 Nieces and nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Jeanie and Ruth; wife Dorothy; sisters-in-law Ruthie Karnes, Macil Karnes, and Wanda Karnes; brother-in-law Lawrence Yeakley.
