RURAL HALL - James Odell Poe, Sr. Aug. 19, 1929 - June 20, 2011 Mr. James Odell Poe, Sr., 81, of Rural Hall passed away on June 20, 2011 at his home following a long illness. Mr. Poe was born on August 19, 1929 in Winston-Salem to the late W.L. Poe and Ethel U. Poe. He was preceded in death by his brother, Leon G. Poe and sister, Clara Brantley. Mr. Poe is survived by Mary Ann, his loving wife of 61 years and four children; James Poe Jr. and wife Billie of Winston-Salem, Pam Moore and husband Keith of Rural Hall, Pat Herbst and husband Glenn of Winston-Salem, Barry Poe and wife Debbie of Rural Hall. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Kenny Herbst and wife Caroline of Clemmons, Landon Moore and wife Leslie of Winston-Salem, Jimmy Poe and wife Lindsey of Charlotte, Ashleigh Essic and husband Tyler of Kernersville, and Harrison Herbst of Blowing Rock and three great-grandchildren, Madison, Dayton and Braydon Moore. Funeral services will be conducted at Jefferson Church of Christ in Rural Hall on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. with Jerry Simpkins, Minister and Todd Payton, Minister officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before services. A graveside service will follow at Jefferson Church of Christ Cemetery. In lieu flowers memorials may be made to; Jefferson Church of Christ designated to the Jackson Helmly Fund, 8200 Jefferson Church Rd., Rural Hall, NC 27045.
