AGED CROSS ROADS CITIZEN SUCCUMBS

Mrs. Marjohnnye Wheat, age 94, known throughout the area as "Aunt Shug," died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Inez Amacker at 6:30 Tuesday evening in the Cross Roads community.
Mrs. Wheat was born in Pearl River County on October 30, 1863, the daughter of the late Matt and Annie Howard Newman. She has lived most of her life in the Buck Branch community and was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. She has seen almost all of the history of Pearl River County written through living it. She was born before the county was officially mapped as a county and has lived through all the years that it has progressed. She was a member of a family who helped build the county to its present position.
Mrs. Wheat's husband was the late James A. Wheat, who died about 20 years ago.
Funeral services were conducted at the Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Humphrey, pastor, officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. J. M. Cain, pastor of the Mitchell Church of God. Pallbearers were Ben Wheat, Sid Stevens, Georgie Rouse, A. C. Wheat, Otis Wheat and Cecil Wheat, all nephews. Burial was in the Bethel cemetery with Jenkins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wheat is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Inez Amacker of Cross Roads; and two step-sons, mart Wheat and Thomas Wheat, both of the Buck Branch community.
