William J. Stockwell, 92 of Midland, died Friday afternoon, December 26, 2003 at Nottingham Place in Midland. He was born February 3, 1911 in St. Charles, son of the late William James and Ottie (Bixby) Stockwell and attended General Motors Institute in Flint. He was married to his first wife Margaret Griffiths, until she predeceased him in 1984. He later was married to Zepha Guilford who predeceased him in 1993. Mr. Stockwell was employed by the Dow Chemical Company for over forty years until his retirement in the spring of 1975. He was an active member of the Hope Baptist Church where he held positions in various offices at the church. His enjoyments included stamp collecting and fishing. Surviving are his four sons and their spouses; Jim and Dru Stockwell of Terrace Park, OH, William and Lorraine Stockwell of Whitehall, Montana, Ralph and Stacy Stockwell of Sanford and David Stockwell of Albright Shores. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren. In additon, Mr. Stockwell was predeceased by his two sisters, Gracie Stockwell and Lorania Borden.
Funeral and committal sevices will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2003, Hope Baptist Church. Pastor Neil Wiggins will officate with burial to take place later in the New Hope Cemetary. Mr. Stockwell's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral home. from 6-8 and at the church on Tuesday from noon until time of services. Those planning expression of sympathy are asked to consider Hope Baptist church or donor's favorite charity.
