THE DEATH OF R0Y LISTER
Clark's Hill - Roy Lister, 91, died at his home in Clark's Hill at 4:50 p.m. Friday. A retired farmer, he was born near Lebanon and had lived near or in Clark's Hill for more than 50 years. He was married to Melissa Ann Graham in 1890, and the couple celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary last January 3. He was a member of Miller Masonic Lodge Mo. 288 at Clarks Hill, and Bethel Methodist church near Lebanon. In addition to the widow, survivors include five sons and five daughters. They are Mrs. Gertrude McColly of Indian Rock Beach, Florida, Mrs. Martha Prior and Mrs Opal Stone of Orlando, Florida, Mrs. Marie Dukes of Clark's Hill, Mrs. Viola Lawler of Lafayette, Leo of St cloud, Florida, Harold and Noble of Clark's Hill, Ernest of West Lafayette and Harley of Lafayette; also a step-son, Ray of Lebanon.
I remeber Roy as a tall lanky man all of his life he was about six foot three and my little Gramma Melissa must have been all of five foot two, so they had shorter children than Roy. Most of his sons were 6 ft. or just a bit under. The girls varied in height.
I only remember grt. grampa Roy as an older man, but from the photos of him younger, I think he might have been a stinker sometimes. He, Roy and Melissa were both very hard workers, she would bake 10 pies and make huge meals, she did all a farm wife would do and he did all the farm work. During harvesting she cooked huge amounts of food for those who came to help get in the crops. I have a huge amount of respect for her.
