OBITUARY.

W. K. Hood Died at His Father's Residence This Morning.

The death of William K. Hood, which occurred this morning at 30 Harrison-st., will bring sorrow to many hearts in the community. Mr. Hood was 46 years old and was born in Syracuse. He was the second of eleven children, of whom four are still living. A graduate of the High school, in the first class to leave that institution, he went, at the age of 19, into the drygoods store of M. S. Price. Continuing there two years, his health broke down. To obtain but door employment he began traveling as a furnishing goods saleman, in which business, recently as a wholesale dealer, he has since remained. As a business man he has always been active and energetic, suffering no indisposition or bodily ailment to dull the edge or his enterprise. Five years ago he was taken with hemorrhages, the culmination of a consumptive tendency, aggravated by constant over work. Since then he has been frequently importuned by his friends to retire from business and seek a change of climate. This he had determined upon doing early in the present winter. But before he could effect a satisfactory settlement of his business relations, he was taken seriously ill and has for some months been confined to his bed.
Eight years ago Mr. Hood was united in marriage to Miss Helen Hudson, daughter of A. A. Hudson of this city. She with the child survive. Mr. Hood was especially well known in Syracuse and elsewhere as an earnest upholder of the Christian faith. In all his illness he was supported by a calm trust in God, and he carried the principles of his religion thoroughly into every day and business life. For a great many years he has been a member and a staunch pillar of the Fourth Presbyterian church, also of the Young Men's Christian Association. He was identified with Scattergood Mission from its earliest foundation. Sunday invariably found him in charge of an evangelistic meeting in some part of the city. His life bore eloquent witness to the truth that is in Christ, and for him to die, is gain.
The funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:30, probably at the Fourth Presbyterian church.
At the last meeting of the Young Men's Christian Association on Monday night, a committee was appointed to draft an expression of sympathy with Mr. Hood in his illness.
