Dan entered the world the third of four children on October 27, 1924. He was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of immigrant parents, Raffaela Lombardi and Biagio "Benjamin" DiManna, both from the Fronsinone Provence in San Giovanni, Italy. He parents worked and met at a rubber factory in Providence, Rhode Island. His father became a barber shop owner and his mother a home maker. Dan attended and graduated from Providence Classical High School at the age of 16. Throughout his life he remained an enormous sports enthusiast that began as a child. His father took him from Providence to Boston to watch the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park and on several occasions he watched the great Babe Ruth.

Dan attended Providence Teacher's College until 1943 at the age of 18 when he was drafted into the WWII US Army, the war that made the world safe for democracy. He served in Company B, 1260th Engineer Combat Battalion in the European Campaign until March 31st, 1946. He served in the Battle of the Bulge under General Omar Bradley. Dan attended the Sorbonne University in Paris, France in theFall of 1945 while waiting for his military discharge. After the war he attended Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. He graduated in the top 10% of his class and earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Dan worked as a barber to make spending money while in college. As the Italian he was, he was always interested in good food so he rented a room with a family in Washington, DC. The Seubert family became his home away from home. He remained close to the Seubert family until his death. Dan lived the bachelor life in Washington and New York City until he met his wife at a Catholic Daughters Sunday afternoon tea.
On November 12, 1956, he married his wife Betty. They have 5 children and 8 grandchildren. He resided with his family in Chevy Chase and Severna Park, Maryland for approximately 30 years. He was a man of great passion, enthusiasm, and commitment for his family. He centered his life on his family. Dan and his family enjoyed many summers vacationing at their beach home in Cape May, New Jersey. He was always very involved in his children's academic life as well as their sports activities with such groups as the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) and Green Hornets Organizations. He worked for over 20 years in both the federal government and in the private sector. Upon his retirement he resided in Millsboro, Delaware for nearly 23 years. He was then able to continue his avid bridge playing while he frequented the local senior centers in Lewes and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
