Ray Aldrich was born in Michigan, as were both of his parents.

He was married for a short time to his first wife name Rita (pronounced Rye-ta, like a long I). The marriage was reportedly annulled. She later married a dentist in town by the last name of Kenck.

He was married to Theresa Dannells on March 8, 1905 in Helena, Montana. The marriage license indicates this was her first marriage.

The 1930 census records show he was a school janitor.
He was reported not to have served in the military.

The 1940 census shows he was painter working as an independent contractor.

Final Rites Held Monday For L. Aldrich

Funeral services for L. Ray Aldrich, 88, Augusta resident who came to Montana by bicycle 66 years ago, were held at the Augusta Community Church Monday with Rev. C. F. Crowe officiating.

Interment for Aldrich, who died in the Choteau hospital Thursday, was in the Augusta cemetery.

Aldrich, who at one time drove stagecoach between Augusta and Craig, was born Dec. 26, 1876 in Albion, Mich. He graduated from Albion High School and attended the Albion conservatory of music where he studied viola, violin and tuba, playing in the conseryatory orchestra and the Gales Celestial band.

Active in music circles throughout his life, he taught violin in Augusta for several years. A varied life in civic and social activities led Aldrich into diverse forms of employment, including work on geological survey teams, cattle and horse ranching carpentry, education and stagecoach driving. He was the first manual training teacher at Augusta High School.

Aldrich married the former Thressa Dannells, who preceded him in death in 1961. The couple was honored by Augusta residents at a reception for their golden wedding anniversary in 1955 and again in 1960 for their 55th anniversary.

Aldrich was a member of the Woodmen of the World fraternal society and received his 50-year membership pin in 1964.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Marchie Buell, Augusta; five grandchildren, Ray Buell, Helena; Maj. Leonard Buell, of the Panama Canal Zone; Arthur Buell, Bozeman, and Mrs. Duane Marcott and Clyde Buell, both of Great Falls, and six great-grandchildren.

(Note: Manual training definition is training in the various manual arts and crafts, as woodworking.)
