40 years with the City's Fire Dept.(1912-1953) Mixed in between Police Dept. and Fire Dept...
" Resolution "
On January 26,1953, the Commission of the City of Waycross and our citizens generally suffered a sad and heavy loss with the passing at the age of 64 of Harvey C. Thackston into the greater life eternal...

For Forty years he loyally and capably served the Municipal Government in the Fire Dept. and for the last Thirty of those years he served as Chief of the Waycross Fire Dept....
Also for a peroid of about a year he capably served as Chief of Waycross Police and as Chief of Waycross Fire Dept....
His effective leadership justly earned for him professional and personal esteem over this entire section and was a strongly contributing factor in the City of Waycross having one of the lowest per capital fire losses in the nation....
As the stature of a man determines the length of his shadow, so the void he leaves on his death is measured by his contribution in life.
Chief Thackston's contributions were numerous, constructive and lasting. He was a man among men, respected and beloved. The length of his shadow will continue to be felt through the passing years..
The depth of our feeling is such that we feel a Memorial page in the minutes of this meeting should be set aside and formally dedicated to him, by inscribing there on for posterity these expressions of our sentiments.....
This date of March 3, 1953....The New Fire Station on Isabella Street was Dedicated to Harvey Clinton Thackston Sr. on August 27, 1953....
