After graduating from high school in Wyndmere, ND, Marvin enlisted in the U.S. Airforce and served during the Korean War for four years. During that time he attended Yale University, studying the Chinese language. He completed his studies as an interpreter and communications analyst. He served in Korea and received 6 medals, including the Republic of Korea Presidential citation. Upon returning to the U.S. in 1953, Marvin was stationed at Brooks AFB in San Antonio, TX. There he met his future wife, Anita Gonzales. They were married in 1954.
During the last year and a half of his service, Marvin was stationed in Washington, D.C. Upon his honorable discharge from the AF in 1955 Marvin and Anita moved to Long Beach, CA. Marvin returned to college working as a parking lot attendant at night and attending classes during the day. He graduated from California State Long Beach with a degree in Business/Marketing in 1958. After graduation he worked for Jorgensen Steel Company. He eventually built his own successful company, MACE METALS SALES, INC., which was in operation for 41 years.
Marvin passed away on July 1, 1991 at the age of 60. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Anita; six children: son, Howard, and daughters: Lori, Connie, Patti, and twins Judi and Jodi; several grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Herbert, Irvin and Allan and sisters, Pearl and Lois.
