Fredrick Gravel, 81
Fredrick Henry Gravel, a resident of Arizona City, died peacefully March 18, 2011, with his family by his side.
A visitation will be held April 4, from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, in Onamia, with a funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment is planned for Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Tuesday, April 5, at 10 a.m.
Fredrick was born Sept. 26, 1929, in Onamia. He graduated from Onamia High School, attended St. Thomas University, and served in the United States Army. For over 35 years he worked in the lumber business with his brother, Louis Gravel, where they co-owned and operated Onamia Lumber Company and Isle Building Supply. Throughout his life he was a dedicated volunteer, serving as a board member of the Mille Lacs Health System, Fire Chief for the Onamia Volunteer Fire Department, EMT for the Isle Volunteer Ambulance Service, member of the Rotary Club and mayor of Isle.
Fred is survived by Fannie, his loving wife of 54 years; daughters, Nancy Carlson, Vicki Knapp (husband Greg) and Donna Wold (husband Denny); son, Bob Gravel (wife Betsy); 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and brother's Walter and Louis Gravel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Margaret Gravel; sister, Mary Louis Eichmiller; brother, Jack Gravel and sister, Peggy Hill.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association.
