2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, out of Fort Hood, TX


He died in Badrah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with indirect fire. He was deployed in support of Operation New Dawn. He previously deployed to Iraq from December 2005 to August 2006 with 2ndSquadron, 4th Infantry Division, of Fort Carson, CO, where he sustained combat-related injuries. He previously deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from August 2006 to May 2007. Among his military awards and decorations were the Bronze Star Medal with OLC; Purple Heart with OLC; Meritorius Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal (2); Army Achievement Medal (2); Iraqi Campaign Medal with two combat service stars; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation; National Defense Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon (2); Combat Action Badge; and Parachutist Badge.


He was predeceased by his grandparents, Eddie VanCamp and Ruth VanCamp; and Russell Coss and Norma Jean Coss. He was survived by his wife; his parents; his mother-in-law; his three brothers; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.


Visitation and funeral services were held on July 30, 2011, at Kepner Funeral Home, Wheeling, WV. Interment on August 1, 2011.
