James Porter Rice was the son of Dangerfield Rice 1775-1827 and Nancy Celeste Helen Brown 1786-1862. He is reported to have served in the CSA. He was a Captain in Company E,10th Missouri Cavalry, McDonald's Battalion. He lived in Johnson Co., MO where he married Sallie Whitsett and later Martha Frances Reamy. He and Martha had a daughter Nancy Jane Rice. After Martha's death he married Permelia Atkinson. They had two daughters Martha Porter Rice and Eula Rice. In late life he moved to Fannin County, TX. His daughter Nancy married Thomas Franklin Allen who was a merchant in Weatherford, Tx.
