A retired Blackford County farmer, Murl C. McCammon, 81, died Friday, Aug. 2, at his rural Montpelier residence.

Mr. McCammon was in the 63rd Air Transport Command of the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of the Gideons International, Indiana Farm Bureau, and the Disabled American Veterans Association. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1940 and attended Purdue University for an agricultural short course. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Hartford City.

Born Nov. 19, 1920 in Porterville, Calif., to Gettys M. and Nova Evon Green McCammon, his marriage on Oct. 14, 1945 in Hartford City was to Wilma Stroble, who survives.

Additional survivors are two daughters, Melanie McCammon of St. Joseph, Mich., and Mrs. Richard (Risa) Kinney of Demotte; three brothers, William of Montpelier, John of Warren and Darrell of Hartford City; two sisters, Mrs. Rolland (Edna) Shadle of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Joe (Betty) Hoeksema of Des Moines, Ia., and one grandson.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel in Montpelier, where calling will be Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. Pastor Mary Lundquist will officiate at services and burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Hartford City.
