J. W. "Jack" Thompson, 78, of Route 8 died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 1984, at Boone Hospital Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Parker Funeral Chapel, Tenth and Walnut Streets, with the Rev. Michael Crouch officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Parker Funeral Chapel. Mr. Thompson was born May 12, 1906, in Boone County to William E. and Annie E. Woodson Thompson. He married Elizabeth Rogers on Nov. 14, 1931, and she proceded him in death March 30, 1951. He married Mary T. Kemper on July 20, 1952. She preceded him in death Oct. 31, 1982. A lifelong resident of Boone County, Mr. Thompson served as a lieutenant of the Columbia Fire Department during 31 years of service. He retired in 1973. He was a member of the First Christian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Joan Chase and Carol Lee, both of Columbia; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Glenn and Mrs. Virginia Green, both of Columbia, four grandsons and two step-grandsons. Memorials may be donated to the First Christian Chruch, Tenth and Walnut Streets.
