Columbus A. Rodgers, was one of eleven Children that was born to Abner and Rebecca Rodgers. His birth occured in Lincoln county Missouri, September 17, 1844. He suddenly left us from his home north of Hardin, Thursday at 9 pm, December 18, having attained the age of 64 years, 2 months and 26 days. Thus has passed away the last of this large family. The first twenty-nine years of his life were spent in the state of his birth, then he came to Calhoun and has ever since resided at some pointa between Hardin and "Anderson Hollow". He was united in marriage to Ellen Welch 15 September 1870,in Hardin, but their married life was of short duration, only two years. He was again wedded, this time to Ellen Smith in Hardin on; November 15, 1873. This union was blessed with nine children, of whom a son and five daughters, with the widow survive. Three daughters preceeded him to the grave. Mr. Rodgers served his country something over a year in Company E, 49th Missouri Infantry. He participated in the battle of Spanish Fort, where the army lay for thirteen days and nights. During the great revival here in 1896 Mr. Rodgers was one of the first to unite with the Presbyterian church which occured on the 18th of December almost ten years before the Messenger of Death summoned him. He was a retiring disposition and in late years has been in poor health, yet the day of his death was spent in the field at work. The funeral services were held at the Presby terian church at Hardin Sabbath morning where a large number of his friends and neighbors came to pay their last respects. He was laid to rest on the "Hill",Hardin Cemetry. Rev. Jas. R. Sager officiating.
