Leona H. Sorensen, passed away at home Monday (09/07/09). Born (05/10/32) at Beatrice, Neb. Sorensen worked for several years at Russell Stover Candy, House of Bauers Candy and HyGain Electronics. She was also the owner of Clatie's Donut Shop for 30 years; Onies Day Care for seven years and Star City Ceramics for five years.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Perley Bates; sister, Elva Carpenter; sister, Fern Sebek; brother, James Bates. Sorensen is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Richard; son, Michael Geer (and wife Jody) of Lincoln; daughter, Jeanette Flaherty (and husband Don) of Raleigh, N.C.; brother, D. Elroy Bates (and wife Lucille) of Beatrice, Neb.; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services 11:30 a.m. Saturday (09/12/09) at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th street. An inurnment will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made payable in Leona's memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation c/o the funeral home. Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
