James Victor Senefsky, 74, Asotin

James Victor Senefsky passed away in his sleep Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, while in the loving care of the Idaho State Veterans Home in Lewiston. Jim finished out his life enjoying cherished moments with his family and friends.

Jim loved life, and was a cheerful and happy soul to everyone he met. And to those of us who knew him well, he was just a gruff ol' teddy bear.

Born July 16, 1936, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Jim was a witness to the Pearl Harbor attack at a young age, which may have influenced him later in life to serve his country and join the U.S. Navy. He was very proud of his service aboard the USS Renshaw.

After discharge, Jim lived in Orofino for 27 years, and during his time there he was very involved in the community, serving proudly with the volunteer fire department, the sheriff's posse, and with search and rescue. He was also a Boy Scout leader for many years. He was employed as a service manager at Hanson's Garage, then later with Idaho State Hospital North, retiring there after 13 years of service.

After retirement, Jim and his wife, JoAnn, traveled the country in their fifth-wheel for five years, spending winters in Yuma, Ariz., and summers on the Pend Oreille River, near Sandpoint. They have spent the past seven wonderful years in Asotin ,next to their caring neighbors, Steve and Kathy.

Jim loved to collect coins, and liked camping, fishing and hunting. In later years, reading, playing Farmville on the computer and joining the family for card games were his "fun hobbies." Jim would teach "Rage" to anyone, and the legacy of that card game lives on with many wonderful memories for our friends and family.

Jim is survived by his wife of 26 years, JoAnn Lynch Senefsky; brothers Walter and Peggy Golladay of Loveland, OH, and Robert E. Golladay of Madison, AL.; children Lora and Mel Haworth of Spokane Valley, Sherri and Jeff Taberner of Newman Lake, WA., and Victor and Teresa Senefsky of Orofino; stepchildren Carol Cressey and Earl White, Clifford and Linda Chapin, and Ken and Paula Chapin, all of Sandpoint, Todd and Tracy Stuffing of Liberty Lake, WA., and Jodine Alm and Danny Weiss of Lewiston; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and stepmother Patricia Jane Gallatin Golladay.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor Leroy Senefsky, Victorine Louise Williams Piersall, and stepfather Edward M. Golladay.

A celebration of life and get-together was conducted from Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Idaho State Veterans Home, 821 21st Ave., Lewiston.
