Ted was a career Navy man. He was a Communications Technician R Branch Master Chief Petty Officer at the time of his retirement. "CTRCM" (E9)
Chief Mara was an admirable man, honest, sober, reliable, kind. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. There doesn't come to mind one person who disliked him.
He served all over the globe. The attached photo is from when he served at Hakata, Japan at the Naval Security Group Detachment there in 1962, when he advanced to Senior Chief. You can see by his four hash marks on his left sleeve that he had already been in the Navy for over 16 years.
