He served as a captain in the U.S. Marines. He received a degree in English from the Duquesne University. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and was a member of the Shriners.

Mr. Alderman is survived by his wife, Marie C. Alderman of Carlsbad; daughter Candace Notaro of Palmdale; sons Michael Orlando of Oceanside, Thomas Orlando of Santa Barbara and Joseph Orlando of Encinitas; sister Marci Stein of Manhattan Beach; and nine grandchildren.
